Colleen Colton Award

Guardianship Services, Inc. is part of the remarkable legacy of our founder and longtime executive director, Colleen Colton. Established in 1985 as a program of Senior Citizen Services, the organization became an independent nonprofit in 1998. Under Colleen’s 27 years of leadership, services expanded to include adults of all ages who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, or exploitation due to cognitive, developmental, and other disabilities. Colleen set the standard for community service, and today the Colleen Colton Community Service Award is given annually to an individual who has changed the way our community cares for the vulnerable.

2025 Colleen Colton Awardee, Lori Varnell

GSI is proud to honor Lori Varnell as the 2025 Colleen Colton Awardee.

For over 25 years, Lori has served Tarrant County as a dedicated prosecutor with the District Attorney’s Office. As Chief of the Elder Financial Fraud Unit, Lori served as a vital collaborator and steadfast champion in the development of GSI’s Financial Exploitation Prevention Center, working tirelessly to pursue justice for vulnerable older adults targeted by fraud. Recognized as an “Unsung Hero” by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Lori continues to champion legal protections for at-risk individuals at both the local and state level.
